Want Climate Change Action? Get A Politician To Commit To Action Like These Nurses Did
June 5 was World Environment Day! To celebrate a lot of the great work nurses have done towards a healthier, greener planet, we’re highlighting some recent actions on Nurse Uncut. Especially considering, as health professionals, nurses and midwives are already seeing the devastating effects of climate change on our community every day and we have an opportunity to encourage our members of Parliament to act on climate change now.
Two weeks ago, members of the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) met with the NSW Shadow Minister for the Environment, the Hon. Penny Sharpe MLC. A key reason for the meeting was to discuss the ‘Our Climate Our Health Campaign’ and the Framework for the National Strategy for Climate, Health & Wellbeing for Australia, both important strategies supported by the NSWNMA to promote action on Climate Change and to raise awareness of the consequences of climate change for the health sector.
The meeting was a roaring success as Penny endorsed the campaign and the framework and happily joined in a photo as you see above.
After the successful meeting nurses had with the Hon. Penny Sharpe MLC, why not consider visiting your local MP and asking them to endorse the important Framework?
See below for more information and what steps you can take to make a difference:

‘Our Climate Our Health Campaign.’
NSWNMA is affiliated with the Climate and Health Alliance to raise awareness of the consequences of climate change for the health sector. The Climate and Health Alliance has recently extended its thanks to the NSWNMA, who are a much-appreciated supporting organisation of the collaborative Our Climate, Our Health campaign which acknowledges that as health professionals we are already seeing the devastating effects of climate change on our community every day and we have an opportunity to encourage our members of Parliament to act on climate change now.
